Decimal system and Italian verb “Piacere”


Decimal system

Unità di misura.
We use only decimal system, therefore we cannot understand a different system. In Italy, if you like to buy something to eat or to drink, you have to use these words:

Grammo = 1 g.
Etto/Ettogrammo 1 hg. (= 100 g.)
Mezzo chilo = ½ kg. (= 5 hg. = 500 g.) = about 1 lb
Chilo/Chilogrammo 1 kg. (= 1000 g. = 10 hg.)

Esempi:
1 pacco di pasta = ½ kg. (= 500 g)
1 lattina piccola di pomodori = 400 g.

Unità di misura dei liquidi = Metric measure of liquids:

Mezzo litro = ½ l. = 500 cl. = about 1 pint
1 Litro = 1 l. = 100 cl.

Esempi:
1 bottiglia di olio extravergine di oliva = 1 litro = 1 l.
1 bottiglia di vino = ¾ di litro = 75 cl.
1 lattina piccola di birra = 33 cl. 1 lattina grande di birra = ½ l. = 50 cl.

Bottiglia = bottle; lattina = can; olio = oil; vino = wine; birra = beer

Il verbo “Piacere”

The Italian verb “Piacere” (= to like) is mostly used in the 3 rd person singular or plural (= piace when is referred to a singular noun; piacciono when the noun is plural) and the person who has the feeling is expressed by a pronoun: the indirect object pronoun [… more]

Ti ( = you singular) piace la pasta? Do you like pasta? ( singular noun)
Vi ( = you plural) piace la pasta? Do you like pasta?
Ti ( = you singular) piacciono gli spaghetti?
Do you like spaghetti? (plural noun)
Vi ( = you plural) piacciono gli spaghetti? Do you like spaghetti?
