Summer holiday in Italy enjoying Rome

Hi everyone, how are you?

I have come back 🙂  and you?  Are you spending your summer holiday in Rome learning Italian?

As you know, all around the year wandering in Rome is a constant voyage of discovery, but Rome in summer is wonderful: Roman citizens and tourists from all over the world can enjoy the famous summer festival in Rome called “Estate Romana” (= Roman Summer). It is not a real festival but rather a combination of multiple festivals with some running well into September.

Maybe you don’t know the Rome’s official web site where you could find piece of information about Rome events.

The Week of Culture 2009

Finalmente abbiamo le date:   April 18th – April 26th!

Next week will start the

“Settimana della Cultura 2009″ : as every year, the Week of Culture organised by the Italian Ministry of Culture is coming with a lot of free events in Rome and in all Italy. Not only country’s state museums and archaeological sites, but also architecture, cinema, music, painting and sculpture are for free for everyone.

Italian survival vademecum

Ciao!   Last week David wrote me: “I am travelling to Italy this summer with my family. How does your “blog” help me with basic touristic Italian? Pronunciation?”

If you need just a phrasebook and a piece of information, you will be better to read the blog “Phrasebook“. Here I wrote some useful sentences and I posted information about basic Italian.

I usually teach at school, so I prefer to explain students grammar rules and then to practise with them grammar information in a natural context, but I can also teach in different situations.  Sometimes I help tourists  to learn the basic Italian to order something to eat or something to drink or else; now I can also teach by Skype. Therefore, if you need an experienced Italian language teacher or if you want a tutor,  e-mail me! I am accustomed to teach Italian at every language level!

Exhibitions in Rome

Hi, if you are in Rome, you have to know that the city’s museums will stay open late during the Christmas holidays.

.I  recommend you to see “De Chirico e il museo” = “De Chirico and the museum” , until 25 Jan 2009 at GNAM – Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna.

This exhibition is a De Chirico’s retrospective and if you like metaphysical painting, you can’t miss this one.

And until 22 February 2009, at the Musem of the Ara Pacis in Rome is hosting an important exhibition dedicated entirely to versatile Milanese artist – a sculptor, illustrator, graphic artist and industrial designer – Bruno Munari [more]

On holiday

Ciao a tutti, here I am again in Rome.

How are you? Are you learning Italian or are you on vacation/holiday?

I am fine and I am going to tell you (in Italian) about my holiday.

Sono stata fuori Roma per dieci (10) giorni.

Dove? ecco un primo suggerimento (= suggestion/hint) fotografico: la stazione.

Non avete capito? ok, in questa città a nord di Roma ci sono molti bei (= beautiful – plural) musei.

Dopo aver visitato la città vecchia, abbiamo visitato la Galleria d’arte moderna e contemporanea (dove non abbiamo pagato il biglietto perché da luglio c’è una grande promozione culturale).

La Galleria è meravigliosa sia per le opere esposte, sia per l’illuminazione che per la struttura architettonica.

Forse qualcuno di voi la può riconoscere da questo secondo aiuto fotografico:

questa è la scala che porta all’ultimo piano e alla terrazza, da cui c’è una splendida vista sulla città.

Naturalmente abbiamo camminato a lungo per la città, per i suoi vicoli, le sue piazze e ci siamo riposati in caffetterie dove c’erano tantissimi dolci di alta pasticceria.

Per godere dell’arte messa a disposizione dalla città abbiamo visitato anche il museo Matisse e il museo Chagall (l’unico a pagamento, ma ne valeva la pena! = it was worth it).

Non è ancora chiaro? Va bene, ecco l’ultimo indizio fotografico:

Siamo stati a Nizza/Nice, ma non solo.

I treni francesi offrono ottime soluzioni grazie ai biglietti giornalieri aperti: è sufficiente chiedere un biglietto di andata e ritorno per poter salire e scendere dai treni regionali come se fossero autobus e poter così visitare piccole cittadine e paesi magnifici, e naturalmente gli immancabili musei. A tal proposito vi consiglio di non perdere il museo Picasso ad Antibes (la collezione è splendida e il Castello Grimaldi sorge in un luogo incantevole), e se avete tempo andate a vedere anche Biot e il museo Fernand Lèger.

Cannes l’ho trovata troppo turistica, anche se esiste una zona non molto frequentata che mi è piaciuta molto.

Dopo la riviera francese, a causa del maltempo, abbiamo deciso di tornare in Italia in cerca di sole e mare e naturalmente, dopo Nizza (città dove nacque= è nato Garibaldi) abbiamo deciso di fermarci allo storico scoglio da cui Garibaldi salpò (= put to sea) per la sua storica impresa di unificazione. Ecco lo scoglio: la bandiera, naturalmente è quella di Genova.

La Liguria, come sempre, era magnifica.

In riviera ho trascorso momenti molto piacevoli e il rumore del mare mi ha restituito la serenità che le città mi tolgono.

Purtroppo siamo dovuti rientrare, a Roma ho trovato l’autunno e ho messo un maglioncino di lana.

E’ stato difficile seguire questo racconto in italiano? Spero di no.

Presto scriverò altri articoli e cercherò di aiutarvi a imparare l’italiano in modo semplice e naturale.

fino al 14 settembre – cosa vedere a Roma

Ciao, io vado in vacanza per un paio di settimane, ma cercherò di tenere aggiornato il blog grazie all’opzione che permette di pubblicare gli articoli in date diverse da quella in cui sono stati scritti.

Per chi vive o studia a Roma vorrei ricordare che ci sono alcune mostre interessanti che stanno per finire.

Vi segnalo quelle che finiranno il 14 settembre:

Se siete interessati al periodo classico, al Colosseo rimarrà ancora per pochi giorni, “Trionfi romani” , che illustra il significato del “trionfo romano” e racconta come si svolgevano le cerimonie per i festeggiamenti, con analisi iconografiche attraverso rilievi, bronzi, monete, sculture, pitture (Info 0639967700; h8,30-19 €11, rid. €6,50).

Chi invece preferisce il Rinascimento, alla Galleria Borghese, piazzale S. Borghese 5

Oltre all’esposizione permanente, in cui potrete vedere famosissime e bellissime sculture come l’”Apollo e Dafne” e il “Davide” di Gian Lorenzo Bernini, fino al 14 settembre potrete ammirare la prima mostra monografica dedicata a Correggio (1489 – 1534), uno dei maestri del Rinascimento (Info 0632810; Mar-dom h9-19. €10,50 )

In un ambiente Classico coma l’Ara Pacis un artista del ‘900: Jean Prouvé. La poetica dell’oggetto tecnico

Le creazioni di uno degli artisti che maggiormente hanno determinato l’evoluzione del design. Una mostra che espone cento opere provenienti dal Vitra Design Museum, dal Centre Pompidou e da collezioni private (Info 060608 ; Mar-dom h9-19. €6,50, rid. €4,50).

Ancora più moderne altre due esposizioni:

La mostra fotografica: Vietnam Fotografie di guerra di Enzo Jacobucci al Museo di Roma in Trastevere.

120 fotografie del fotoreporter abruzzese che a causa dei contenuti delle opere esposte, la visione della mostra è consigliata ad un pubblico adulto (Info 060608; Mar-dom h10-20. €5,50, rid. €4).

e al Palazzo delle Esposizioni, la 15a Quadriennale di Roma. Cento artisti per capire dove va l’arte contemporanea italiana (Info 069774531; Dom-gio h11-21; ven-sab h11-23,30. €8, rid. €6,50).

Non perdete gli ultimi concerti Jazz all’aperto:

A Villa Celimontana il Jazz Festival dal 1994 è un appuntamento imperdibile per chi ama il jazz (Info 0677202256).

Non dimenticate il teatro: al Silvano Toti Globe Theatre, Largo Aqua Felix, Villa Borghese (ingresso Piazzale delle Canestre),  Il mercante di Venezia (Info 060608; dal 30 agosto 2008 al 14 settembre, ore 21.15)

La struttura circolare del teatro in legno, ricalca fedelmente il modello del Globe originale: una visiona d’altri tempi 😉

Come to Rome and enjoy Italian culture

Ciao, why come to Rome? As you know there are a lot of good reasons to come here, first of all the opportunity to cultural exchange in a city steeped in history and culture. Now there is a new good occasion: from April 4th to May 25th the “FotoGrafia-Rome’s International Festival” seventh edition, titled “Seeing normality. Photography portrays daily life” and sponsored by the Municipality of Rome.
If you like photography and you want to visit Rome important museum, I suggest you don’t miss this opportunity! There are many free exhibitions of Italian and international photographers around the city and you could speak and listen to Italian.

During my favorite event in Rome and in all Italy, the “Week of Culture”, the entrance to public museums, monuments and archaeological sites will be free. But not only country’s state museums and archaeological sites, also architecture, music, painting and sculpture are for free for everyone.

If they require a reservation it may be impossible to get one at the last minute, so phone for reservation!
